"If
you stick with what you
know; you sell yourself
short." - Grammy-award
winning singer Carrie
Underwood
Who has your back . . . and
your front?
Who can you turn to when you
need outside perspective
because you've gotten too
close to your work and can't
see it clearly anymore?
Who can you count on to give
feedback that elevates your
business and takes it to a
level you couldn't achieve
on your own?
If you're fortunate, you
have several people you can
trust to contribute
experience, expertise and
support so you're not going
it alone.
If you don't already have a
group of colleagues like
this, join ours.
I am the beneficiary of a
brilliant mastermind. My
peers have already elevated
my personal and professional
life in multiple, tangible
ways that are better than I
could have imagined.
At our first meeting, we
worked on collages of what
we wanted more of in 2011.
It was a delightful
experience, gathered
together with my buddies,
upbeat music playing in the
background, happily sorting
through piles of magazines
and snipping out what caught
our attention and carefully
placing it on our vision
board.
It wasn't until we shared
with each other what we had
selected and why that
Becky's causal observation
opened my eyes to a pattern
I wasn't even aware I had.
She said, "That's
interesting. Sam's collage
has all words and mine has
all images."
Whoa. Had never occurred to
me. What could it mean?
Well, it's evident that I
care a lot about words as I
make my living speaking,
writing and helping people
express themselves.
However, was I focusing on
that to an unhealthy
extreme?
One of two of the wisest
things I've heard is that
"our strength taken to an
extreme becomes our Achilles
Heel" and, to paraphrase
Carrie Underwood, "If we
stick to who and what we
know; we sell ourselves
short."
Had it become a habit to
think only intellectually,
from the neck up?
Was I operating within my
comfort zone and not
reaching out to new people
and places?
Would it behoove me to
"color" and "flesh out" my
world with images of new
friends, foreign countries
and physical activities?
Rebecca's insight motivated
me to go back and create a
NEW vision board - one that
purposefully includes photos
of all the people I care
about, plus people I respect
and would like to connect
with, scenes of cities and
museums I'd like to visit,
swim races I want to compete
in, beaches I want to walk
on, conferences I'd like to
speak at, bestseller lists
I'd like to be on. This
time, there's more images,
fewer words.
How about you? What would be
on your vision board? What
does that say about you?
Could you carve out time to
create a collage that
includes words and
images of what you'd like to
see more of in 2011?
Could you purposefully
include new places and
people instead of sticking
to who and what you know -
so you're transcending
patterns you're not even
aware of that could be
limiting you or holding you
back?
Could you then post that
collage where you'll see it
everyday so you keep these
images in sight, in mind -
the better to (wo)manifest
them?
And, if you'd like to
benefit from ongoing input
from peers who have your
back and your
front; email us at

the subject heading to find
out more about our programs.
It'd be a pleasure and a
privilege to play a role in
your 2011 being everything
you hope for - and more.
