Then You'll Want to Hire Sam Horn
Sam has an amazing ability to interview you about your
experience, expertise and offerings, pull out what is most
compelling and commercially-viable, compare it to your goals,
and then combine it with her proprietary POP! Process to create
a strategic and tactical positioning that gives you a
competitive edge.
She then has an uncanny ability to turn that USP (Unique
Strategic Positioning) into a signature message and mission
that help you POP! out . . . even in a crowded
marketplace. Anyone hearing about your business, products,
services and offerings will instantly get them, like them,
remembers them and be motivated to want them, buy them and
recommend them.
That may sound rather grandiose, but the thousands of people who
have seen Sam give on-the-spot coaching to audience
participants, and who have hired her as their strategist, will
attest to her genius-like ability to generate attention-grabbing
ideas and one-of-a-kind approaches that catapult their success.
Here are FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) about how Sam’s
consulting process works.
1. Do I have to know in
advance what I want to focus on and accomplish?
It helps, but it’s not necessary.
Some of Sam’s clients know exactly what they want to achieve -
others just know they want to take their career or business to
the next level. People often say, "Just tell me what to do.
Help me make it happen."
Some clients know they're leaving money on the table. Others
know they have impressive credentials but don't know how to
pitch them, package them, position them or present them for
optimal success. Some realize they're getting lost in their
crowded industry because they look and sound like everyone
else. Some want to re-brand their business because it’s not
getting the results they know they’re capable of. All want to
create something first-of-its-kind that will catapult their
impact and income.
2. How does Sam help me,
my business and/or my priority project break out?
Sam sends you her proprietary questionnaire that helps you
crystallize where you are and where you want to be a year from
now. This questionnaire helps you get clear about your goals
– and then Sam studies your material to figure out how you can
zig where everyone else in your industry zags.
She starts brainstorming your priorities, using her proprietary
POP! Process to position you so you’re one-of-a-kind vs
one-of-many. She talks you through her W9 Form to dig deep and
identify what you're offering that is special and that
differentiates you from your competitors.
Mostly though, she uses her prodigious mind (and her
ever-present notepad) to deeply listen to what you’re saying to
figure out how you can zig where everyone else is zagging.
Over the years, Sam has developed an ability to mind-map what
you're saying and connect that with her knowledge of current
events to make quantum creative leaps that crystallize a new
positioning for your work that has the power to get you noticed
. . .for all the right reasons.
She'll often hear a kernel of an idea that has breakout
potential and then POP! it into a
proprietary never-before-heard-or-seen phrase you can trademark,
merchandize, media-ize (that’s a word, right?) and monetize . .
. in perpetuity. She interviews you and plumbs your past to
pull out your STORY that can be used as an appealing, universal
metaphor that makes you one-of-a-kind vs. one-of-many.
By the way, we know there are a LOT of “branding experts” and
marketing consultants out there making big promises. Sam
suggests you look at their credentials and examine their client
list and track record to determine whether you can trust them to
deliver the results you want and deserve.
Sam’s been doing this for 20+ years and has been hired by Cisco
to work with their top entrepreneurs by and EO to work with
their top 26 emerging world leaders. Her work has been featured
on NPR, MSNBC,
BusinessWeek.com and in
NY Times, Investors Business Daily and Washington Post. She has
been privileged to work with the COO of Obama’s presidential
campaign, the founder of Travelocity, the former head of the
National Broadcasting Association, the project manager of the
Hubble Telescope, the Presidents of NSA, ASAE, ASTD and ICF, the
Creative Director at MGM Pictures and on and on.
Frankly speaking . . . she is really, really good at what she
does. More importantly, you can trust her to act in integrity
and to be committed to delivering real-world results that thrill
you.
You are encouraged to record your sessions with Sam as she
morphs your priorities and projects into something that moves
you to the head of your class. Many clients tell us they listen
to the CD’s of their sessions with Sam again and again because
the languaging she produces is often so perfect they insert it
directly into their website copy, marketing material, proposal,
manuscript or presentation.
You’ll also want to take notes and “ink it when you think it” to
capture the in-the-moment epiphanies that emerge during your
sessions.
As Pulitzer Prize nominee Fawn Germer says, “You don’t have to
be a creative genius to use Sam’s Ideas. But using her ideas
can make you a creative genius.” Recording Sam's in-the-flow of
ideas when her brain’s on fire and she’s 100% focused on your
priorities can catapult your creative positioning and income and
drive the next ten years of your life.
3. Who does Sam Work With?
An organizational development expert who works with
Microsoft asked, “Do you just work with entrepreneurs,
executives and topic experts?”
Glad you asked that.
Sam has worked with astrophysicists, corporate executives,
physicians, grassroots advocates, inventors, INC 500 winners,
politicians, YPOers, 20-somethings with an idea, bestselling
authors, non-profit leaders, Hollywood Top 35 under 35
fast-trackers, government officials, professional speakers and
inventors.
Let’s put it this way. What do you care about?
Whether that's your company, a non-profit, keynote, book,
career, proposal, media tour or a political campaign . . . . Sam
can help you get it the visibility, respect, support and funding
it deserves.
Best of all, Sam doesn't just help you with one aspect of your
project. She believes everything we do in business needs to be
strategic and symbiotic.
Sam can help you create an INSTITUTE or an UMBRELLA
BRAND for all your activities so they’re
inter-connected (instead of all over the map) to ensure you get
maximum payoff for your efforts.
For example, if you want to write a breakout book, Sam will work
with you to turn that into a proprietary BODY OF WORK
that you roll out in a variety of business activities and
revenue streams.
Books don't exist in isolation. Books should be on-brand and
congruent with presentations, consulting, e-commerce and media
outreach so you’re building an EQUITY EMPIRE that
generates income in perpetuity.
Sam will help you create a clear, current, compelling,
commercially-viable message and mission that you roll out
through a variety of coordinated formats so everything supports
each other and scales your visibility, impact and results in
record time.
Your media outreach (both traditional and social) should be
based on sound-bites pulled out of your signature message and
mission so it drives traffic to your website and builds your
mailing list and network. Your leading-edge ideas should be
captured in bogs, podcasts, webinars and subscription groups so
you’re monetizing your mind and distributing your ideas
one-to-many, not just one-to-one. Your one-of-a-kind
intellectual capital should be niched for different target
audiences so you don’t have one-offs that limit your income.
When you work with Sam why her clients praise her ability to
generate first-of-their-kind approaches that capture attention,
respect, and revenue for their work.
4. Is it important
for us to work together in person?
It's nice, but not necessary.
You can work side-by-side with Sam at her lakefront home near
Washington DC's Dulles Airport - or piggy-back an in-person
appointment with Sam when she’s speaking in your area. Check her
public speaking calendar on
www.SamHorn.com to check her travel schedule.
Some clients communicate primarily via phone and Skype because
they have a hurry-up deadline or busy schedule and don’t want to
wait to work with Sam. Rest assured, working “virtually” works
well. Sam has a number of international clients who communicate
exclusively via Skype, and they’re thrilled with the results
they get because they can display their work on both computers
while brainstorming/strategizing.
5. Do we need to
schedule our time together?
Yes. Once you purchase your package, call 805 528-4351 in
advance to schedule your appointment(s).
6. What kinds of
things can Sam help me with? Can I ask her to help me
develop a standout brand, develop a breakout book, coach me on
my pitch presentation, or polish my proposal?
Certainly. Many clients praise Sam’s ability to assess their
work and give precise feedback on how to make it more persuasive
and powerful. She's known for her ability to write tell ‘n
sell copy from scratch that lands them a contract or closes a
deal.
Please note:
Sam doesn’t just review your work in advance. She digs deep
into your history, values, and achievements and conducts market
research to determine how you can zig where everyone else is
sagging. She takes copious notes, gives specific feedback,
and adds her own intellectual capital that makes it
one-of-a-kind. She is renowned for conjuring up
original content and trademark-able NURDS (new words) that have
launched careers and generated 6 and 7 figures in income.
For example, as the Pitch Coach for Springboard Enterprises
(which has helped entrepreneurs receive more than $5 billion in
venture capital), Sam has helped clients design and deliver 10
minute pitch presentations that resulted in millions of dollars
of funding from investors.
And yes, Sam will tell you if you request something that is
outside her areas of expertise – and will recommend options you
can trust to act with integrity and deliver what the promise.
For example, Sam is NOT a techie. She can certainly teach you
how to write interesting articles, blogs and tweets that
establish you as a topical topic expert online and that scale
your brand recognition and visibility (in fact, she just did
that in her Don’t Just Tell It – Sell It presentation
with Marketing Guru Terry Brock at the 2010 NSA Winter
Conference) but she is NOT an expert about Search Engine
Optimization and optimizing your electronic gadgets.
What can Sam help you do? See specific examples and
success stories at the end of this document.
7. OK, What
Does it Cost to Work with Sam, and what are the
“specifics” of how this works?
.
a)
Upon selecting your preferred consulting package, we send
you a questionnaire that helps you crystallize your current
status regarding this priority and your goals for this project
and your work with Sam. Many people have told us that just
filling out this questionnaire helped them gain valuable clarity
about what’s needed to make their project more
commercially-viable.
b)
You send the completed questionnaire and relevant
material you want Sam to review before your appointment so she
can immerse yourself in your work.
For example, if you are working with Sam on a book proposal, you
might send your Table of Contents, articles you’ve written on
the topic, your description of presentations you’ve given on
this topic, your bio and credentials, etc.
If you want Sam’s help polishing a pitch or presentation, you
might send your power point slides, a DVD or video clip you’ve
already created, your program outline, speaker one-sheet, etc.
c)
Sam spends 4-6 hours in advance reviewing this material
in advance. This includes making notes about your priorities
and submitted questions and goals, studying your website,
researching your company history, watching your video, looking
at your blog, etc. She identifies what's NOT being included
that could make your project even more powerful.
This is also where Sam puts her mind to work on YOUR behalf.
She starts “noodling” as to your USP (Unique Strategic
Positioning) and combines her 20+ years in the speaking and
publishing industry with her proprietary POP! process to start
conjuring up elevator intros that describe what you do so people
instantly get it and want it, possible taglines, proprietary
phrases, trade-markable titles and unique approaches so your
priority doesn’t look or sound like anyone else. This is also
where Sam starts thinking about current events and how to
position you so your message is relevant, fresh and convincing
for your target audience.
d)
For the Gold Package - you meet in person with Sam for a day (6
hours).
(This can be broken into three 2 hour phone appointments if
you’re not able to meet in person).
At the beginning of this time, Sam reports out her findings
about your project and gives specific recommendations on how to
POP! it to maximize its success. The remainder of the day is
spent integrating her suggestions and working together to polish
your proposal, pitch, presentation, website/blog copy, marketing
materials, social media outreach, and YOUR priorities.
This is an intense, productive day. Many people tell Sam they
get more SMART “love-it-can-use-it-immediately” ideas from her
in ONE HOUR than they have from months of working with other
consultants.
You are encouraged to record this session.
Many clients tell us they listen to these recordings again and
again. They hear something new each time and often take the
languaging Sam comes up with right off the recording and insert
it into their book jacket, presentation description, speaker
one-sheet, website homepage, power-point presentation, investor
pitch, etc.
Whatever your priority is, Sam makes sure to fit it in with your
overall business goals so it’s a strategic pay-off. Throughout
the day, you’ll constantly run what you produce together by her
criteria to make sure your work pays off for you in the months
and years ahead.
C = Clear
C = Congruent
C = Compelling
C = Current
C = Commercially-viable
e)
As a bonus, we offer a free 1 hour follow-up phone
consulting call to be scheduled at your convenience within 3
months following your appointment. This is an opportunity to
report progress, share successes, ask questions, get Sam’s
advice and strategic recommendations about what additional steps
you can take to maximize your success.
f)
For the Platinum Package – you get all the above except
you meet with Sam for 2 days. This can be done together (on a
weekend or 2 consecutive weekdays) or each day can be scheduled
separately. This is ideal for people who want to work on
several priorities at the same time – or who want to go deep
into developing a one-of-a-kind book or presentation. There are
2 additional 1 hour consulting phone calls to be scheduled
within 6 months with the Platinum Packages.

Let's put fees
in perspective.
Clients consistently tell us Sam is THE BEST
strategist/consultant they’ve ever had the privilege to work
with. Many have experienced frustration and disappointment with
other “experts” who made big claims and couldn’t deliver on
them.
The messaging we come up with isn't just for your book,
presentation or pitch - the intriguing languaging often goes
right into your website copy, e-commerce, and
marketing collateral and helps you POP! your brand and business
so it wins buy-in from target customers.
As one entrepreneur told us, "I did the math. I'm asking
investors for $2 million. Without your help, I didn't have a
chance of getting it. With your help, I did. Enough said."
If you're a successful speaker, this fee probably represents
what you normally make for one presentation. If you’re a
trainer or consultant, this represents what you would get paid
for a workshop or a day of consulting for a corporate client.
If you're an author, this fee represents a fraction of
the advance and royalties you could generate - not to mention
the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars you’ll receive from
speaking engagements, media attention and contracts you’ll get
as a result of Sam helping you create a quality book that is
sold around the world. A client told Sam, “I paid 5 figures
for a publicist for my previous book and didn’t get one review
or interview. I got more ideas, results and tangible
value from you in one day than I did in three months of
working with that publicist.”
If you're an entrepreneur, this fee represents a small portion
of the income you'll derive from new customers, new products,
improved services and sales. One Inc. 500 client told Sam that
the concise, compelling elevator intro they developed together
resulted in three new clients at one networking event. A
therapist told Sam a tele-seminar she conducted as a result of
their work together filled her calendar with new clients who
were impressed with her style and approach.
If you're seeking funding, this fee represents a small
percentage of what you could receive from investors or
sponsors. One client with severe stagefright told Sam that she
went from being petrified to delivering a confident pitch that
helped her secure matching funds from her state.
If you're running a non-profit, this represents a small portion
of the grants, donations and contributions that result from an
in-integrity, attention-grabbing promotional campaign. One
client (full disclosure, this is my son Andrew Horn, who heads
up Dreams for Kids in Wash DC) used the media outreach strategy
we generated to land press coverage from the Washington Post and
Fox News which has scaled their credibility and visibility and
earned a trip to the White House.
In other words, the money you pay to work with Sam will generate
visionary ideas, breakout branding and positioning,
add-value-for-everyone approaches that pay off for you in
multiple ways, for years to come, earning back many times over
your initial investment.
And yes – we do have a payment plan. You are welcome to divide
the amount into three monthly payments
if that works better for your cash flow. Just add a $20 a month
fee to cover the additional administrative costs.
Please note: the time and consulting work purchased must be used
within one year of the signing of the consulting agreement.
8. How do I make payment?
